About Us

Lincoln Haven was started  10 years ago, when the property belonging to the Presbyterian church was up for sale – Sharon, who owned the property around this 18Ha piece of land, being a trained nursing sister, and had a heart for the elderly, began to see how this group of buildings might lend itself perfectly to a retirement home with a Frail care facility – in the country. So She and Her Hubby, Jock, began to do some research on the market needs, and found that there was an ever increasing need for Frail care and a massive gap in the market for assisted living.  And so after acquiring the land and buildings, they set out to renovate and improve so that Lincoln Haven is now perfectly suited to the elderly who love to be away from the rush and busyness of city life.

We now have 13 Frail care rooms – Two of them are large enough for a couple who both need care. The rooms are very large and have lovely large windows which overlook the beautiful and extensive gardens.

We offer entertainment on 2 Mondays a week – sing a long or games. Board games are played on many of the afternoons and on a Friday morning, we have a “friendship circle “ and scones. We take a bus into town ( Hayfields mall) twice a month for those who miss shopping – but Eve ( our energetic Kitchen matron) does also do shopping for the residents once a week.  All residents wear a “panic button” if help is needed at any time of the day or night.  Washing and Ironing your clothes and bedclothes etc is part of the deal – In fact, its like “Hotel living”, only with your very own personal furniture/ bed etc. We are a Christian based home, and so “grace” is said before meals, and we run a weekly bible study for those who wish to attend. We will also transport residents to our local church on Sundays.  We have a hairdresser who visits each Wednesday and she will cut, set and perm – very popular day for most of our ladies. We also have someone who comes in monthly to do Waxing, and another lady who comes weekly to do massages. We have a pair of resident wholly necked stalks and some smaller resident dogs and cats – but sadly, we cannot take pets.

Our dining room is a sunny happy place where all 37 to 40 possible residents meet – Food is served on platters, so each person can help themselves to what they want. Our kitchen is run by Sharon’s own mother of 77 who specialises in home cooked balanced meals – tasty and different !

The rooms/ flatlets are serviced each morning – beds made and bathrooms wiped and then each week, each unit gets a “big Clean” All staff ( 10 carers/ 5 Cleaners / 2 gardeners/ 4 Kitchen staff / 2 managers/ a maintenance gang ) live on the farm “Lincoln” – So we are simply a big happy family !!

A peaceful home in the country, situated in a very beautiful part of KZN only 50km from PMB and 80km from Durban. Lincoln haven can be found nestled between Eston and Richmond on the R624.

Mission

Lincoln Haven’s mission is to glorify God in the way we love and care for each other, whilst creating a place where the elderly can enjoy their golden years in peace and dignity.

Lincoln Haven is situated between Hillcrest and Pietermaritzburg offering frail care and assisted living.

Frail Care

Frail care really means, hands on body- so help is needed with basic hygiene – like showering, toileting and even feeding.  We offer 3 levels of Frail care from “low” to “medium” to “high” The bathrooms are adapted to aid the carers in showering without too much danger of slipping etc

Assisted Living

Assisted living is for those who can still look after their own personal hygiene – They can shower without aid, dress themselves and walk to the dining room 3 times a day.  We have lovely “flatlets” which have a bedroom, bathroom, living area with kitchenette and a veranda area.
